Do these 3 things and you will have regular visitors!

A good, easy-to-clean feeder makes all the difference.  The snap-on lid of this feeder makes cleaning and refilling with sugar water a breeze! (affiliate link)

1. Add a Feeder

Add 1 c. sugar to 4 c. water and heat on stove until dissolved. Fill feeder and save remainder in the refrigerator. No need to add any red dye!

Sugar water recipe:

This is the number one mistake people make! Don't let your sugar water go more than a week without replacing it.

2. Replace sugar water regularly

Hummingbirds love brightly colored tubular shaped flowers like this Flame Acanthus (also called Hummingbird Bush).

3. Add Nectar Plants

Choose plants that are native to your local area for best results. Plants with tubular red flowers like this Turk's Cap are hummingbird magnets.

Natives are best...

Cardinal flower: Native to much of the U.S.

Trumpet Vine: Native to Southeastern U.S.

Columbine: Native to North America east of Rockies

Other great hummingbird plants:

Autumn Sage: Native to Texas

The fall hummingbird migration has begun! Get your feeders out for hummingbirds heading South for the winter.
